Here is some examples of the toxic found in the cosmestics that we consume in our daily life. Nevertheless, I would like to share to everyone about the effects of these harmful substances that may greatly affect our health.

Firstly, phthalates are industrial plasticizers widely used in personal care products to moisturize and soften skin, impart flexibility to nail polish after it dries and enhance the fragrances used in most products. Studies indicate that phthalates cause a wide range of birth defects and lifelong reproductive impairments, targeting every organ in the male reproductive system and causing problems ranging from low sperm count to serious genital deformities that can lead to an increased risk of cancer. It maybe sounds scary but sadly its happening.
Humectants are also a kind of chemical that can be found in the cosmestics. It is said to be the ingredients which helps to moisure the skin. Most moisturizers contain humectants that act as water attractors, they actually pull moisture out of your skin. The problem with humectants, including propylene glycol and glycerin is that although they are most effective when you are in areas with high humidity, if you are going to be in an extremely low humidity atmosphere, such as in an airplane or even a dry room, they can actually take moisture from your skin. Here's why, if the environment is so drying that there is no moisture to be had, they will get it from the next best source – your skin. When this happens, the ingredient, which is supposed to help your skin retain moisture, instead does the opposite.
Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing agents are used in the manufacture of water-based consumer products to prevent bacterial growth. But no many of us know that actually formaldehyde can easily absorbed by the human skin and has been previously linked with skin sensitivity and at worst, cancer. It can be widely found in the eyelash glues, nail glues, nail polishes, baby soaps, baby shampoos and body washes.
Hydroquinone is commonly used for skin lighteners. As a skin lightening ingredient, hydroquinone causes the decline in the production of melanin pigments which subsequently increases the risks involved in exposing the skin to the harmful UV and UVB rays of the sun. This means that the carcinogenic effects of the chemical will likewise be aggravated by skin cancer caused by UV rays; hence the concern for its potency as a carcinogen in cosmetics used by women, particularly those with colored skin tones. Hydroquinone has been verified to affect natural immunity as well as to bring about reproductive and developmental defects.
Parabens refer to chemicals with similar molecular structures namely ehtylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben and is widely in used in the production of cosmetics production. It has the purpose of inhibiting microbial growths for a period of time. They are easily absorbed by the skin and enter the bloodstream as well as the digestive system. As carcinogens, evidences of their concentrations were found in breast tumor biopsy results. In addition, paraben is almost present in the urine samples. It can be found in products like shampoos, conditioners, facial cleansers, scrubs and the likes. Although the contention that parabens in a single product is limited to low levels, an individual uses multiple products as part of personal hygiene and aesthetic enhancements more than once in a single day. Manufacturers of organic products that employ water-based solutions are urged to come up with products that have shorter shelf-lives to dispense of these parabens.

As a conclusion, we should consume less cosmetics for the sake of our health. At least, we should read the contents and think before consuming!
